So you’ve cut out the caffeine in your diet, bought a black out blind and invested in some ear plugs and you’re still finding that you just can’t sleep and before you know it morning has made its appearance once again. Rather than hitting the snooze button just one more time, try these tricks for the perfect night’s sleep:

Relax
It’s easier said than done we know, so make a calm bedtime routine if you make the effort to relax and unwind before bed you will sleep easier and deeply. Try relaxing in a warm bath in the evenings to soothe your stress. Televisions and computers are not recommended as a tool to fall asleep or relax to as the light they give off supresses your melatonin production and can stimulate the mind rather than relaxing it. If your favourite programme is on record it for the next evening.

Regular Exercise
Your exercise habits can contribute to your sleeping pattern , you’ll have a much better sleep if you do exercise daily, you don’t have to be an Olympian to reap the benefits, as little as twenty minutes of gentle exercise will promote sleep. Try a brisk walk home from work, or a bike ride, or even a bit of gardening or housework.

Avoid Alcohol
Many people think that a quick night cap will send them to sleep in no time when in reality although it may make you fall asleep much faster than normal it will reduce your sleep quality, waking you up in the middle of the night – often because you’re dehydrated. To reduce this affect try having wine with your meal and not after it.

Bed
Of course the most obvious one of them all is to ensure that you have a comfortable bed to sleep in. You need to find the bed to meet your needs and you’re comfortable in. Make sure you have the appropriate mattress, pillow and duvet weight and density for your needs to ensure maximum support and comfort. Finding the right bed can be hard as everyone requires different needs, you need a bed that will give you the correct support and comfort and provides you with a healthy space to sleep in.
